Welcome to a website about the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital, which ran for from the late 1800s until 1979. The hospital was located in south Etobicoke, in the New Toronto neighbourhood.

This site is dedicated to the former asylum located in New Toronto, at the intersection of Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Kipling Ave.  The Property went through a number of different names, including the Mimico Asylum and the name it was know as at the end – the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital.

The property is now home to several different groups:

  1.  The Cottages and the Administration Building are now used by Humber College as the eastern portion of their Lakeshore Campus.
  2. The Assembly Hall is now run by the City of Toronto’s Cultural Department is available for rent to community groups.
  3. The Superintendent’s House is now Cumberland House, part of the Jane Tweed Centre.
  4. The Gatehouse – run by a not-for-profit group.
